RUST, Ralph D. 81, of Eaton, OH, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017. Born March 4, 1936 in Preble County, OH, he was the son of the late Homer and Ethel (Swink) Rust. He was a 1954 graduate of Dixon High School where he was a member of the undefeated baseball team in county play for the years of 1953 and 1954. In 1954, the undefeated baseball team won the district title. He was a 1962 graduate of the University of Cincinnati and passed the CPA exam in May 1963 with the highest score in the state. He served with the US Army from 1955 – 1957 and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eaton.
A charter member of the Optimist Club of Eaton formed in 1968, where he served as President in 1977 – 1978, and as treasurer for several years. He was elected as Lt. Governor of the zone for two terms. Ralph retired from Sinclair Community College in 1995 as a Professor of Accounting after 31 years of service. He was named Professor Emeritus in 1996. He also practiced public accounting in Eaton for several years.
Survivors include his wife Betty (Brown) Rust whom he married in 1960; son Michael Rust and close friend Diana of Chandler, AZ; daughter Janice Taynor of Dayton; granddaughter Cassidy Rust; brother Lowell Rust and wife Mary of Fairborn, OH; sister Barbara Worley and husband Robert of Eaton; sister-in-law Oma Brown of Dayton.
He was proud of his attendance record in that he missed 3 days of school in the first grade due to illness and then maintained 11 years of perfect attendance. In 31 years of employment at Sinclair Community College, he missed one day of classes due to illness and had 31 years of perfect attendance for the Optimist Club of Eaton.
Friends may call on the family from 12:00 – 1:00 PM Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens – 3377 US Rt. 35 – West Alexandria, OH. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor David Matevia officiating. Burial will follow at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery.
